Beautiful sunset taken from the banks of the Northern Bay in the little town of Penobscot, Maine, not far from where I live in Blue Hill. The Northern Bay is actually the upper end of the Bagaduce river, which is a finger of the ocean, reaching several miles inland. This water is tidal, and the river changes direction rather dramatically with the flow of the tide. At low tide, the bay is almost completely devoid of water, revealing mud flats which are FULL of clams. High tide brings an abundance of fish, and seals. A favorite, and beautiful place to go kayaking, but beware - if you hit the tide wrong, you'll be in for quite a workout, as the current can be strong!
